現在、欧米から世界から学ぼうとする人が多い中、私は日本の過去から学べることは十分豊富にあり、そちらの方が質も高いと常々思っておりますが、小規模ながら経営者として私が理想に思っているのが、近江商人の理念です。
この心構えをウガンダ人に教えてみようと思い、三方よしと商人十訓の英訳をネットで探してみたのですが、なかったので、自分で訳してみました。良い訳ではないかもしれませんが、足さず加えず日本語的に訳してみました。

売り手よし、買い手よし、世間よし
近江商人・商売の十訓
一 商売は世の為、人の為の奉仕にして、利益はその当然の報酬なり
二 店の大小よりも場所の良否、場所の良否よりも品の如何
三 売る前のお世辞より売った後の奉仕、これこそ永遠の客をつくる
四 資金の少なきを憂うなかれ、信用の足らざるを憂うべし
五 無理に売るな、客の好むものも売るな、客の為になるものを売れ
六 良きものを売るは善なり、良き品を広告して多く売ることはさらに善なり
七 紙一枚でも景品はお客を喜ばせる、つけてあげるもののないとき笑顔を景品にせよ
八 正札を守れ、値引きは却って気持ちを悪くするくらいが落ちだ
九 今日の損益を常に考えよ、今日の損益を明らかにしないでは、寝につかぬ習慣にせよ
十 商売には好況、不況はない、いずれにしても儲けねばならぬ

Oumi Merchant Ten Teaching
1. Business is for the society, contribution to people, therefore profit is a rightful reward.
2. Location of the shop rather than its size, quality of products rather than shop’s location.
3. Contribution after sales rather than flattery before sales, this creates your permanent customers.
4. Do not worry about shortage of fund, worry about lack of creditability.
5. Don’t sell by force, neither sell what customers want, but sell something useful to customers.
6. Selling good things is a virtue, advertise good items and selling many of them is more virtuous.
7. Prize of a sheet of paper can please customers, your smile should be the prize if you have nothing to attach.
8. Keep your price tag, discount will just end up making customer feel unpleasant.
9. Always think of profit and loss of the day, make it your custom not to sleep without clearing up profit and loss of the day.
10. There are no prosperity nor depression in business, have to make profit in either event.
複数の仕事をする私ですが、自分の基本は商人だと思っています。商才のある人のことを商売人とか言いますが、この”ショウバイニン”という言葉もなんか響きの良い言葉ですね。実際には、商人っぽくない、商売人っぽくないと言われることの方が多く、憧れに終わっておりますが。
